Oral BPC-157 capsules — worth the money or just expensive poop?
36 posts
Saw a vendor pushing 500mcg enteric-coated BPC capsules at basically 4x the price-per-dose of injectable. Their pitch: 'BPC-157 was discovered in gastric juice, oral is the native route.'
The counter is that the gastric juice protein is a much larger molecule and the 15aa fragment is synthetic. 'Discovered in gastric juice' and 'oral bioavailability is good' are not the same claim.
That said — the Sikiric oral rodent data does show systemic effects (reduced inflammation distal from the gut). So something is getting through, or signaling through, even from an oral route.
My specific question: for a non-GI target (shoulder, elbow, tendon) — is there any reason to prefer oral over Sub-Q? Price alone would push me toward injection. But I'm curious if anyone has a real reason.

For a shoulder or elbow? No. Sub-Q, cheaper, you know what dose is actually landing. Oral is a novelty priced like a premium product.

Vendors are leaning hard on the 'native route' framing. It's marketing. A fragment of a protein is not a protein. The fragment's oral fate is an open question even in rodents.

I did a 4-week oral run for curiosity. 500mcg capsules, 2x daily. Zero noticeable effect on my elbow. Switched to Sub-Q same dose and got the usual response within 2 weeks. Not a controlled experiment, but informative.

The one case I'd make for oral: needle phobia so bad you won't pin at all. Oral might be better than nothing. That's a short list.

The price delta alone kills it for me. 4x cost for a route of administration with worse characterized bioavailability? Hard pass.

Consensus seems to be 'injectable for joints/tendons, maybe oral for gut.' Appreciate the input. Saving the money for a second vial.

Would be interested in a blind head-to-head but nobody's going to run it. The economics only work for the vendor selling the premium format.
