Community rule suggestions

Had a thought in the shower. Would it be useful to have a 'low effort post' sub-rule that pushes brand new users to read the pinned FAQ before their first thread? Not gatekeeping — just reducing 'is this legit' threads we see 4x/week.

We've discussed this internally. The tension is: we want new users to feel welcome, not gated. A soft nudge like 'hey, check the FAQ first' is fair. A hard block isn't.

Open to ideas. If someone wants to propose specific wording DM me and I'll take it to the mod team.

As a heavy lurker: I'd rather see soft nudges than hard blocks. The FAQ isn't that readable right now — fixing the FAQ might help more than a rule change.

Honestly the FAQ thing makes sense. I'm pretty new here and I did read it when I first showed up but like half of it felt outdated or confusing. Maybe just cleaning that up first would filter out a ton of the repeat questions without making people feel dumb for asking. The soft nudge approach feels right tho, not everyone knows where to look.
