Sleep has been garbage for about a year. Oura averaging 6h10m, HRV tanked from a prior ~55 to ~34, too many wakings. Trying a stack focused on sleep architecture rather than chasing the GH axis.

Stack:

  • DSIP 100mcg pre-bed
  • Epitalon 5mg every other day for 20 days
  • Glycine 3g pre-bed (not new)
  • Magnesium threonate (not new)

Baseline (2 weeks tracked):

  • Oura total sleep: 6h09m avg
  • HRV: 34
  • RHR: 66
  • Deep: 38m avg
  • REM: 1h02m avg
  • Wakings: 2.3/night

Week 1: Oura 6h28m avg, HRV 38, wakings 2.0. First night on DSIP I slept like I was in a coma, then it normalized.

The 'knock you out' first night on DSIP is a known thing and then tolerance kind of sets in. You get a milder effect from then on.

Week 2: Oura 6h41m, HRV 44, RHR 63, wakings 1.4. Deep sleep 55m avg. This is a real change on the deep number.

Week 4: Oura 6h58m, HRV 48, RHR 62, wakings 1.2. Deep 58m, REM 1h18m. Morning energy is clearly better. Finished the epitalon round this week.

Epitalon tail lasts a while after the round ends. Don't be surprised if the HRV bump holds for another couple weeks.

Week 6: Oura 7h04m avg, HRV 51, RHR 60, wakings 0.9. Deep 62m. Going to stop DSIP at week 8, hold the epitalon schedule (off-cycle currently), and see what sticks.

Curious what your caffeine cutoff time is, that's usually the silent killer on sleep logs.

HRV up 17 points in 6 weeks is not nothing. This is a well-run log.

Hard cutoff at noon for over a year. That's held constant throughout.

The HRV response is solid but I'm curious if the deep sleep gain is mostly from DSIP or if epitalon is doing some legwork there too. DSIP tends to fragment REM in some people even when total sleep goes up, but your REM actually stayed stable which is unusual. Worth noting that the wakings drop is probably more meaningful than raw sleep time since that's what tanked your HRV in the first place. How's your sleep quality feel subjectively, or are you strictly data-driven on this.
